Dental Implants by Creating Great Smiles

Dental implants are a treatment used to replace missing teeth and are made to match your natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence knowing that their new teeth are natural looking and completely functional. Dental implants also provide for an exceptional alternative to other treatments such as dentures and dental bridges. Before you make the decision to receive dental implants, we ask that you undergo a dental/radiographic examination and health history to determine if you are eligible for this type of treatment.

Dental Implant Supported Bridge

Dental Implant Candidacy

Although most people are eligible for dental implants, the general rule is that the recipient has healthy gums and a strong enough bone to hold the implant. Dr. Sokolosky will be able to make the determination to see if you are healthy enough to undergo the dental implant procedure. The dental implant procedure is one of the most successful in dentistry, but recipients must be committed to maintaining good oral hygiene and routinely getting dental checkups.

Tooth Loss

There are numerous reasons why teeth are lost including the following:

Tooth decay
Root canal failure
Gum disease
Traumatic incident
Excessive wear and tear
Congenital defects

The Advantages of Dental Implants

Dental implants hold many advantages and are a safe and common dental procedure. In addition to the improved appearance of having permanent replacement teeth, having your smile back can give a self-confidence boost and help you feel better about yourself. The procedure does not require that you reduce healthy tooth structure as a dental bridge does. Because your nearby teeth are not reduced to support the implant, their long-term health is maximized. In addition to the benefit of not having an appliance in your mouth, the speaking and eating problems associated with dentures are eliminated because dentals implants become part of you.

Dental Implants Procedure

Dr. Sokolosky will give you an individualized treatment plan to go over your unique needs. Once this is done, your dental team will work to begin the placement of the small posts, the dental implants, which are to be inserted into your jawbone. Once the implant has bonded to the jawbone, a process called osseointegration, a small connector post called an abutment will be attached to hold the new tooth. The tooth will be matched to the color of your natural teeth and will look, feel and function just like your natural teeth.
